Be sure your “trainer” (or at least he or she giving out directions) is certified. Many people nowadays are simply running “bootcamps” in the local parks barking out instructions at the top of their lungs, screaming and yelling at you and they themselves couldn’t answer the question “why are you making me do this?” Certified Fitness Trainers understand the body. They are educated as to how it works, why it does what it does, etc. Most bootcamp guides (and that’s what most of them are, “guides”) don’t know a thing about how to properly train the human machine. They throw on a cool tank top, the latest Nikes, and let the charisma go to work. They haven’t any idea how to “coach up” an individual, they don’t know how to speak to people in a manner that will affect them positively because most of them have never run anything in their lives. They fail to realize that the vast majority of their clients became out of shape in the first place because of their minds, not because they simply “like eating” so barking and yelling and punishing them isn’t going to work long term. Make sure your putting yourselves in the hands of people that get this, otherwise, you’re gonna waste time, money and most importantly sanity. – SK
